Why does HIP not cover all of my medical expenses?

The objective of HIP is to provide affordable, basic health insurance. HIP is not designed to offer major medical benefits. Therefore, HIP Benefits are limited to ensure that the premiums remain affordable. If HIP were to provide additional benefits, there would be a direct increase in premiums charged to support those extra benefits.

HIP is currently subsidized by Bermuda Government and from all people who pay health insurance premiums in Bermuda. In the future, HIP will be re-evaluating its package of benefits to ensure that it truly meets peoples' basic needs. We hope to maximize the benefits for claims dollars spent, provide disease management and implement cost containment in an effort to manage rapid medical inflation that reduces the dollar value of HIP benefits.
